Dearest Vista Family,
It is with great excitement that I enter my second year as principal of Vista Charter Middle School. We begin the 2018-2019 school year with many reasons for celebration! Our students made significant gains in academic achievement in English Language Arts and Mathematics. We had a successful Oversight visit scoring Accomplished on Organizational Management, Programs and Operations. We’ve also secured strong community partnerships with organizations like Blessings in a Backpack.
Our theme for the 2018-2019 school year is Taking Vista to the Next Level. We plan to do this by building on the work we did last year but stretching and pushing ourselves to trying new things. We will continue to support students’ social emotional needs with Way of Council, but will commit to more regularly-scheduled Councils, family Councils and student-led Councils. We will continue to implement Kagan strategies for cooperative learning, but will commit to using Kagan structures to support our English Learners. We will continue to offer the Project Lead the Way curriculum in 6th grade but will add the Automation and Robotics course in 7th grade and the Green Architecture course in 8th grade. Additionally, we will be piloting iPads in the classroom for collaboration, Mastery-Based Learning, a new Teacher Growth Model and addressing global issues by taking action on the Sustainable Development Goals.
We will continue to offer a strong instructional program and our staff will collaborate on a consistent basis to provide high-quality instruction for all our students. We will also collaborate with our families and all of our stakeholders to ensure student success and continues learned for all. My door is always open as we work together to transform the school experience for our school community!
Looking forward to another great school year!
